Paint Splatters and Sticky Fingers

I've been trying to get into the studio and spend at least 30 minutes a day painting.  It isn't very much time, but I'm trying to embrace the whole idea of getting things done in small pockets of time rather than lengthy sessions.  Those wonderful lengthy sessions of spending two, three or even four hours painting away in uninterrupted bliss just don't happen these days and I've had to get creative to make time to be creative!  One of the blessings of being a creative Mommy; painting in between the Lego messes, cuddles while reading, and chasing after sticky fingers before they touch the furniture!

I've been slowing working on the watercolor pieces I started from the photos I took of the flowers blooming in my front yard.  Here is a peek at the progress so far:

I'm still working on the idea of layering within a watercolor painting.  I had some fun using my paintbrush to "splatter" some paint across the pieces.  I think next I may try some more stamping.  I'm loving getting reacquainted with my watercolors!  It has been a long time since I've used them.  I do find myself missing my acrylics, though!  I feel the need to get my hands messy while creating another layered background!  So much to do, so little time!! :)

How do you make time in your busy schedule to be creative?  I'd love to know!!

Happy creating!
Jennifer

Your work is so beautiful - I love those colors, and all the layers you put into your pieces. You are very talented!

LOL, you asked a great question - I'm gonna have to check back here & see if anyone has a good system! I try to take time for creative things when my little ones are sleeping....and then rush to get the necessary things done afterward, haha!

Enjoying your blog :)

Hi Jennifer. Your art is so pretty! Good for you for taking 30 minute chunks! I have been doing one hour most days, some days it is uninterrupted, others I have a 3 yr. old climbing on me. I prefer to work during the day and my daughter is mostly good with it. I guess it is a give and take. I seem to say that I will take them somewhere/play etc. with my kids after I have my art time. Happy Painting!

Delicately beautiful, I'd say your 30 minute blocks are working out well :-)

Oh, how I can relate!! My oldest will be 2.5 on the 30th, and my youngest is 7months. Making time for a shower sometimes takes official scheduling. I try to drag out my oldest art supplies when the little one is napping. Painting with him helps me to stay light with the process. ... now, that being said... I've not been getting anything done here lately. Haha. can't wait to see how this sneak-peek turns out!
